Unlike most mental health practices, KCPC only provides treatment approaches that have demonstrated the highest level of support, although the type of therapy can vary depending upon the particular needs of the session. This means that our therapy services have demonstrated the ability to be the premier treatment for a condition that not only effectively treats the issues but generally does so in a much shorter time than many other less-supported treatment approaches that are often selected based upon therapist personal preference rather than scientific evidence.
Unfortunately, a lack of treatment success can often be due the therapist having a limited level of training and providing treatment that was not well-supported by science or providing merely supportive therapy that might have felt beneficial shortly after the session ended but never really addressed the actual issue. While patients, and parents of children who are in therapy, generally need to be ready to commit to different ways of doing things, finding a therapist who is committed to and well-versed in empirically-supported treatments is not always that easy, and many people seeking services are unaware of the important difference in levels of training clinicians might have and the efficacy of certain treatment approaches. Patients will be provided services by a doctoral-level psychologist who has received education and experience in empirically-supported treatments and has a strong personal and professional commitment to providing the highest quality of care available.
Psychologists at KCPC do not accept any insurance. Prospective patients who wish to use insurance for clinical issues should check with their insurance company to determine their out-of-network benefits to see if they can expect any amount of reimbursement. However, paying out-of-pocket for effective treatment can easily be less expensive than paying office co-pays for an extended period of time for ineffective treatment. For example paying for ineffective treatment with little benefit for 52 weeks at $50 co-pay/session= $2,600, while paying out-of-pocket for 16 sessions that are more likely to be beneficial is only $1,600. While individual results cannot be guaranteed,, it is possible to save $1000 dollars and receive benefits in only 16 weeks that are unlikely to be achieved in one year of merely supportive therapy. Assessment costs vary greatly by the type of evaluation, and forensic evaluations are generally not covered at all by any insurance. Healthcare related evaluations are sometimes covered by insurance for individuals; however, there are often burdensome and unnecessary procedures that have to occur just to be evaluated. Self-pay assists in being able to schedule the evaluation and complete necessary procedures without interference from insurance companies.
